MechWarrior Developer Launches Kickstarter for New BattleTech Game
Video game developer Jordan Weisman and his studio Harebrained Schemes will launch a Kickstarter campaign for a turn-based strategy game in the fall. The game takes place in the BattleTech universe known from the MechWarrior games.
Development studio Harebrained Schemes announces the news on its website, and has immediately set up a small teaser site. Little is known about the game, but it is clear that the game combines the management of Mechs and MechWarriors with modern turn-based tactics mechanics. The crowdfunding campaign should start in the fall of this year.
The game should not be confused with MechWarrior Tactics. That game was under development by Roadhouse Interactive, among others, and would be published by Infinite Game Publishing. It has been completely silent around that game for a long time, and the development of the game seems to have stopped.
Jordan Weisman, who has worked on a multitude of games from the BattleTech universe in the past, is involved in the development. Weisman is also the man behind the Crimson Skies and Shadowrun franchises, and was the founder of Fasa Corporation in the 1980s. Weisman has secured the rights to franchises like MechWarrior from Microsoft. Harebrained Schemes, a studio Weisman set up, has run Kickstarter campaigns for Golem Arcana, Shadowrun Returns, and Shadowrun: Hong Kong in the past. All these campaigns have achieved their goal.
