MechWarrior developer is working on new single-player game for release in 2024
MechWarrior 5 maker Piranha Games is developing a new title in the MechWarrior series, aiming for a 2024 release. It would mainly be a single-player game.
During an interview as part of a podcast episode of NoGutsNoGalaxy say Piranha Games director Russ Bullock says a new MechWarrior game is in development. This new project will not be MechWarrior Online 2 and the title cannot therefore be seen as an online PVP game, but will be more similar to the gameplay of MechWarrior 5. According to Bullock, this means that the new game will mainly follow the path of single player and co. -will strike.
This is a standalone game that will be announced sometime later this year, probably in the fall. The new game will be released for PC and multiple unnamed consoles. Bullock later confirmed to PC Gamer that the new title is scheduled for release in 2024.
In the interview, Bullock also said that Piranha Games would like to release a successor to MechWarrior Online, released in 2013, but that will be difficult due to licensing problems. The studio still has the rights to make MechWarrior games until 2025, but due to the uncertainty after that, Piranha Games will not now develop MechWarrior Online 2. According to Bullock, an extension of the license until 2030 is necessary, because it would take five years after the release of this game.
MechWarrior 5: Mercenaries was released on the Epic Games Store in December 2019, appeared on the Microsoft Store in May 2020 and was Steam’s turn a year later. The game was also released in 2021 for the Xbox and PlayStation consoles and is part of the Game Pass subscription.
