Maxon releases benchmark tool Cinebench R20
Maxon has released a new version of its benchmark tool. Cinebench R20 uses a much larger and more complex scene than its predecessor. According to the makers, this makes the tool more accurate for modern CPUs.
Cinebench R20 uses Intel’s Embree engine for ray tracing and the new benchmark can handle “advanced features” of modern AMD and Intel CPUs, according to Maxon, making rendering up to twice as fast as before. The same improvements are also in the Cinema 4D R20 software.
Because the scene used for the benchmark is different from the one in the previous version, benchmark results cannot be compared. The test also takes longer; eight times as much computing power is needed to render the new scene and a minimum of 4GB of RAM is required. Maxon has removed the GPU test from Cinebench R20.
Cinebench R20 has been released through the Microsoft Store and the Mac App Store. TechPowerUp has put a version of the application online that can be downloaded without using the download stores.
