According to The Register, Mark Zuckerberg plans to develop a general AI. Meta’s CEO wants to deploy at least 350,000 Nvidia H100 GPUs for this purpose by the end of this year.

Meta will according to The Register also use other chips to train its general artificial intelligence, or AGI. In general artificial intelligence, an AI model is better at most economically valuable tasks than humans. The American tech company would like to have a total computing capacity comparable to approximately 600,000 H100 GPUs. It is not clear which other chips or GPUs are involved. At the beginning of 2022, Meta already showed an AI supercomputer with 16,000 Nvidia A100 GPUs.

Meta has been working on its own AI models for several years. The company wants to add generative AI to all its products. CEO Mark Zuckerberg stated in the summer of 2023 that he wanted to make the operation of AI algorithms publicly available. The tech company has already released various language models that scientists can then use to conduct research.
