Mark Gurman: Apple is conducting tests with unannounced laptop
Mark Gurman claims that Apple is testing an unannounced laptop. The tech journalist was able to view Apple log files that show that the laptop runs macOS 14 and has a larger screen than the 13.3-inch version of the MacBook Air.
According to Gurman the laptop has a CPU with eight computing cores and a GPU with ten cores. The CPU contained four faster and four more efficient calculation cores, which corresponds to the number of calculation cores of the M2 chipset that Apple introduced in June of 2022. According to the journalist, the as-yet-unannounced device had 8GB of RAM available and was codenamed Mac 15.3.
Gurman was also able to determine which operating system was present on the laptop and that was reportedly macOS 14, a version that Apple has not yet officially announced. The most recent version of the operating system is macOS 13, or macOS Ventura. The laptop would have the same screen resolution as a 14-inch MacBook Pro, namely 3024 by 1964 pixels.
Gurman also reports that Apple is planning an update for the 14″ and 16″ models of the Macbook Pro. According to the journalist, they will be refreshed in the spring of 2024. The American company would also work on an update for the MacBook Air, the iMac and the MacBook Pro with a 13-inch screen. Apple would also still be tinkering with a new Mac Pro that only runs on Apple Silicon.
Mark Gurman’s claims are consistent with earlier rumors of a 15.5-inch MacBook Air. Display Supply Chain Consultants analyst Ross Young reported early this year that Apple had begun mass-producing 15-inch MacBook Air displays. .5″. TF Securities analyst Ming-Chi Kuo also confirmed the rumors of a new MacBook Air. Gurman has been predicting the arrival of this laptop since the summer of 2022.
