Manufacturers announce their AMD R9 285 cards
AMD’s partners have announced their R9 285 graphics cards. In addition to reference models, the manufacturers come with overclocked variants of the graphics card with Tonga GPUs and with cards that are equipped with their own coolers.
Gigabyte equips the R9 285 with the Windforce 2X cooler, which is equipped with two 100mm fans and two copper heatpipes. The card with type name GV-R9285WF2OC-2GD is delivered overclocked, but the clock speeds are not known at the time of writing.
Club3D has christened its performance Radeon R9 285 Royal Queen. This model runs at 945MHz, where the clock speed is normally 918MHz and the manufacturer also supplies its own overclocking tool royalFlush. The card features Club3D’s CoolStream cooler with two fans and displayport, HDMI and two DVI ports.
Asus comes with the Radeon R9 285 ‘Strix’, which, as the name implies, has the manufacturer’s Strix cooling. The two fans do their job silently and only when the temperature reaches a certain level do they go to work. Asus delivers the card overclocked from the factory, but the exact speeds are not yet known.
The MSI model is equipped with the manufacturer’s TwinFrozr IV cooling. With 1GHz, the clock speed is somewhat higher than the standard clock speed of 918MHz. The other specifications do not differ. His comes with two versions: one with standard speeds and a slightly overclocked model with a clock speed of 928MHz. The cooling is the IceQ X2 with two 80mm fans. The prices of all mentioned video cards are not yet known, but the cards will be available immediately.
Sapphire introduces three new models. Of the two models with Dual-X cooling, one has the reference clock speeds and another clocks at 965MHz for core clock and 5.6GHz instead of 5.5GHz for gddr5 memory. In addition, there is the R9 285 ITX Compact OC for small form factor systems. This card is relatively short at 171mm and the GPU clock speed at 928MHz is slightly higher than the standard speed.
