Manufacturers Announce Servers for Skylake-S-Xeons
Supermicro and Dell upgraded their servers with Xeon E3-1200 v5 processors. Supermicro launches 1U servers, blades and motherboards for Skylake-S and Dell introduces four PowerEdge servers for SMBs.
Intel announced the Xeon E3-1200 v5 line of server and workstation processors in late October, and those chips are now available, prompting server manufacturers to introduce their products. Supermicro is releasing a large number of products in its X11 line with support for the Skylake-S chips. Among other things, there will be six 1U servers, two 3U MicroCloud servers, a mid-tower model and a series of X11 motherboards.
Dell is releasing new systems in the thirteenth generation of its PowerEdge line. The company is introducing two rack servers: the PowerEdge R330 and the R230. In addition, two tower servers will be available: the T330 and the T130. Dell focuses on small and medium-sized businesses and smaller offices with the systems.
The affected systems will take advantage of the increased computing power of the Skylake architecture compared to the previous generation of Haswell processors and of the possibility to use ddr4. The Xeon E3-1200 v5 line consists of quad cores, most of which support HyperThreading. Some chips are equipped with a GPU. That is the HD P530 chip, which is known as GT2 with other Skylake chips and is equipped with 24 execution units.
