At the ChinaJoy 2018 conference in Shanghai, Intel partner Raytheon unveiled a laptop with ip68 certification for dust and water resistance. The laptop continues to function underwater.

The IP68 certification is an indication that the convertible laptop is fully protected against dust and can be fully submerged in water for extended periods of time, at a depth of more than one meter, while continuing to function. To demonstrate this, Raytheon, which appears to be a subsidiary of the Chinese company ThundeRobot, placed the laptop in a tub of water during a presentation on the Intel stage at ChinaJoy 2018, MyDrivers writes. The laptop was also sprinkled with water for a longer period of time.

It is a concept system called Uncia, derived from panthera uncia, a snow leopard. The 13.3 “laptop is 12.7 mm thick and weighs 1.1 kilograms. The processor is a Core i7-8550U from Intel and the laptop is passively cooled. It is not known whether the company will actually market the Uncia.

There are already laptops that are somewhat resistant to water. Most of these are in the rugged category for industrial applications, such as the ToughBook CF-31 from Panasonic. The latter has an IP65 certification, which makes it resistant to spraying with water.
