Man runs your p-port Dosbox on Xbox One

A developer has converted Dosbox to the Universal Windows Platform so that it can run on an Xbox One. With the app, he managed to run Windows 95 and play Duke Nukem 3D. He promises to release the code on Github.

The developer vcfan shows on YouTube that his port of the Dosbox emulator works by booting Windows 95. He does admit that the app runs slowly and that there is still some work to be done to prevent crashes.

For now, the Xbox One must be put in Dev Mode to run Universal Windows Apps. Any Xbox One can do this if the user registers his account and is willing to reset his console. From the summer, Xbox One systems will also be able to run uwp apps without dev mode.

It is unknown what Microsoft’s policy on emulators will be. For example, Apple doesn’t allow old games to be played on iOS, but the Windows Store has had some emulators for years.
