Malware on payment systems hotel chain Hyatt stole credit card information
Hotel chain Hyatt warns customers that it has recently found malware on its payment systems. The chain recommends users keep an eye on their credit card statements and check them for unauthorized transfers.
The malware was on computers running payment processing systems, and Hyatt “recently” discovered the malicious code. The hotel chain cites November 30 as a specific discovery date against Reuters, but it is unclear how long the malware had been on the systems. The company has hired FireEye security experts and is conducting further investigations.
In the meantime, the company advises customers who have stayed in hotels to check their statements for suspicious wire transfers. It is not known whether credit cards have actually been misused and how many customers are involved.
Hyatt has a total of 627 hotels worldwide, but it is unclear whether all those hotels have been affected by the malware. It is the fourth hotel chain to suffer from credit card-stealing malware. Hilton, Starwood and Trump previously issued similar warnings.
