Maker Google-less /e/OS releases its own smartphone Murena One
The company Murena, which is behind the stripped version of Android, announces its own smartphone. The Murena One is a smartphone equipped with Murena’s own version of Android, /e/OS. This is a version of the operating system without Google’s services.
The Murena One is Murena’s first phone and is is equipped as standard with /e/OS. The operating system was already available for a number of other phones. For example, the Fairphone 4 has been supporting the beta version of the Google-less version of Android since the beginning of this year.
The Murena One is a 6.53″ smartphone equipped with a Mediatek Helio P60 CPU and an Arm Mail-G72 900MHz GPU. The storage space is 128GB, but can be expanded with a MicroSD card. The smartphone has standard 4GB of RAM and a 4500mAh battery. There is a 48MP camera on the back of the phone and a 25MP camera on the front.
The first official version of /e/OS V1 will also be released along with the new smartphone. In that operating system, all Google services have been removed. This ensures that a smartphone no longer makes contact with Google’s servers. For example, the OS uses a different search engine and users can use the phone with a Murena account instead of a Google account.
The Murena One costs 350 euros. According to the manufacturer’s website, the device is currently sold out. Next month, the first devices will be shipped to customers who have already ordered the smartphone.
