Macotakara: successor iPhone SE will be released in May and lacks 3.5mm connection

The Japanese site Macotakara reports that Apple plans to release the successor to the original iPhone SE, which it introduced in 2016, in May. Unlike the predecessor, there is no 3.5mm connection, as with all recent models.

Macotakara, which has a good reputation for information about unannounced Apple models, obtained the information from conversations with case makers. They also told the site that the housing of the iPhone SE 2 will have the same size as the original model. Apple was able to accommodate a screen with a diagonal of 4 “in it at the time. Like other recent iPhones, the SE successor lacks a 3.5 mm connection.

Furthermore, the device would be equipped with Touch ID and would run on the A10 Fusion soc, which Apple first used in the iPhone 7 devices. Macotakara further notes that it could find no hard evidence that the back of the new device is made of glass, which is important for whether wireless charging is possible.

Earlier this week, Apple’s registrations in the database of the Eurasian Economic Commission came out. This may include the iPhone SE successor. An older rumor from late last year placed the release of the device before this summer.
