‘MacOS Sonoma includes function to detect liquid in USB-C ports’
9to5Mac editors have spotted a system daemon in macOS Sonoma 14.1 that can detect fluid in USB-C ports. For the time being, the new system process would only be used for diagnostic reasons.
The daemon would have been given the title liquiddetectiond and is described as a daemon responsible for the detection of liquids and the prevention of corrosion. According to the editors of 9to5Mac iOS and iPadOS contain a similar background process that can check for liquid in the device’s Lightning or USB-C port.
The tech website believes that this function is currently only used for Apple diagnostics and therefore has no warnings or banners associated with it. 9to5mac believes that thanks to the daemon, Apple’s technical department will be able to better determine whether there is water damage in a defective Mac. Macs, iPhones, iPads and other Apple devices contain physical indicators to detect potential water damage.
