Apple now sells the Mac mini with M2 socs. The small PC can be purchased with the standard M2 soc or with the faster and also new M2 Pro. Deliveries of the new Mac minis will start on Tuesday, January 24.

The M2 version of the Mac mini has, depending on the version, 8 to 24GB memory and 256GB to 2TB SSD storage. The soc always has eight CPU cores and ten GPU cores. According to Apple, this M2 version can handle two screens. This soc also offers hardware ProRes acceleration, so that image processing in Final Cut Pro would be up to 2.4 times faster than with the M1-Mac mini.

The Mac mini with M2 Pro-soc has ten CPU cores and sixteen GPU cores as standard, but for an extra 345 euros, Apple turns this into twelve CPU cores and nineteen GPU cores. The working memory here is 16 or 32GB. Buyers can choose from 512GB to 8TB SSD storage. The M2 Pro has, among other things, a higher memory bandwidth and twice as many transistors as the M2-soc. This PC can also connect to three screens, one of which is an 8k screen. It is the first time that the small Mac can handle an 8k screen.

The M2 model has two Thunderbolt 4 ports, the variant with the M2 Pro soc gets four. Both models have two USB-A ports, an HDMI port and a 1Gbit/s Ethernet port. Optionally, Apple turns this into a 10Gbit/s port. There is also a 3.5mm port. The two Mac mini versions also support Wi-Fi 6E and Bluetooth 5.3, and ship with macOS Ventura.
