Lotus introduces electric sports car with almost 2000 hp
The British sports car manufacturer Lotus has introduced the Evija, a fully electrically powered sports car with four electric motors, a total output of 1972 hp and a torque of 1700 Nm.
According to Lotus, the Evija will be the most powerful production car on the road. The four electric motors, one for each wheel, accelerate the car from 0 to 100 km/h in less than three seconds and enable a top speed of over 320 km/h. The car weighs 1680kg, making it the lightest all-electric hypercar according to Lotus.
The Evija has a battery placed in the middle of the car with a capacity of 70 kWh and an output of 2000 kW. This gives the sports car a range of 400 km according to the wltp standard. According to Lotus, with existing technology, such as a 350kW charger, the battery can be charged to eighty percent in twelve minutes and to one hundred percent in 18 minutes. The battery can also charge at 800kW on which it would be fully charged in nine minutes. However, there are no commercially available charging systems that make this possible.
Lotus has equipped the Evija with headlights where the light is not produced by LEDs, but by lasers from the company Osram. Furthermore, regular exterior mirrors are missing, which reduces air resistance. These have been replaced by various cameras, the images of which are shown on three screens in the futuristic interior.
The electric sports car from the British manufacturer will cost at least 1.7 million pounds, converted 1.88 million euros. There are additional taxes. Getting one requires a £250,000 deposit. Production will start sometime in 2020 and a maximum of 130 copies of the Evija will be made.
