Logitech releases ‘home camera’ Circle
Logitech is launching a ‘home camera’ called Circle under Logitech’s Logi brand. The ‘home video camera’ is presented not so much as a security camera by the company, but above all as a camera with which ‘beautiful moments at home’ never have to be missed again.
The stream from the Logi Circle home camera can be viewed anywhere via an iOS or Android app. The camera itself can connect to 2.4GHz or 5GHz Wi-Fi networks to send the stream outside. There is no web client. The camera, the size of a tennis ball, can also be accessed via Bluetooth. The resolution on which the camera streams is 720p and the whole does not roll away because it is mounted on a magnetic base station that can be attached to all kinds of metal surfaces.
Charging is done via a ring-shaped magnetic ‘dock’. When the camera is not docked, the battery can last up to three hours with a constant video stream without additional power. When the energy saving mode is turned on, up to twelve hours can be achieved on a single charge.
The video clips that are recorded are stored on a free Logi Circle Cloud account. The storage space would be enough for “a day’s worth of saved video clips.” When to record depends on the settings. Logitech uses proprietary algorithms to detect motion in the camera’s view. When the camera detects motion, it will record clips and save them in the private area of the Logi Circle account. There is also a time-lapse function that allows the whole day to pass in 30 seconds.
The Circle is available immediately for 199 euros and Logitech supplies the camera, the charging ring with a 3 meter cable and the magnetic wall mounting option. The lens is a 135 wide-angle lens and the whole can ‘zoom’ eight times, both live and on recorded fragments. An ‘activity light’ changes color to indicate what the camera is doing. It flashes white when someone is looking or red when the battery is low or the connection is lost. The whole is also equipped with an internal microphone and speaker.
