Logitech introduces button for smart home control
Logitech is launching a new ‘button’ called Pop to control various devices that can be controlled via WiFi or Bluetooth. Each button can send out three different commands with a single click, double click or long press.
The Pop button can be set via an application on iOS 9 or later or Android 4.4 or later. The Pop Switch itself can be placed on most flat surfaces or carried as a standalone device. The accessory does not require external cables for power because a Pop switch is powered by a battery.
The movable button works with a variety of products, such as lighting, music, and Logitech Harmony remotes. Pop supports the following brands at launch: Philips Hue, LIFX, August, Sonos, Harmony, Lutron, Insteon, and Belkin WeMo.
In order to use Pop, a Pop bridge, which is in a socket, and a Pop switch is required. The Pop Home Switch Starter Pack contains a bridge and two switches with batteries. Switches can also be ordered separately.
To use Pop, a device or several devices must first be set up via the application. Three options can then be set for each desired function. For example, it is possible to make a combination of light and music so that both are switched on by pressing one button. In combination with a Logitech Harmony hub, even more devices can be controlled.
The Pop Bridge measures 12.6 by 12.6 centimeters, is 6.3 centimeters thick and weighs 255 grams. The switch is slightly thinner and lighter: 2.5 centimeters thick and weighs 105 grams. The Pop Home Switch Starter Pack and individual Pop Add-On Home Switches will initially be released in the United States under the Logi brand for $99.99 and $39.99 respectively. It is not known when and whether the Pop products will come to Europe and what they will cost in the EU.
