Logitech buys maker of wireless earbuds
Logitech has acquired Utah, USA, maker of wireless earbuds, Jaybird, for $50 million in cash. With the sale, Logitech wants to enter the market of wireless and portable audio components.
In addition to the $50 million, Jaybird can earn an additional $45 million if the targets are met in the next two years. Ten-year-old Jaybird not only makes portable wireless earbuds, but also fitness trackers. Jaybird will continue to operate under its own brand name.
According to a statement from Jaybird CEO Judd Armstrong, the company will be able to take advantage of Logitech’s global distribution network and the knowledge and expertise available in the company’s development departments. The CEO also finds the expansion with the Ultimate Ears brand and what has resulted from it reason to be part of the Logitech team.
Logitech bought Ultimate Ears in 2008, a maker of earphones that initially targeted the professional market, then began manufacturing products for consumers. Under the UE brand, Logitech today releases wireless speakers and other audio products, among other things.
