Live voice conversion software should work in games from this summer zomer
Software to convert live voices in game chats should be in games from this summer. The start-up Modulate is preparing the software for release. It is not yet known which games it will be in.
Modulate calls the feature ‘voice skins’ and players should be able to talk to them into the microphone, after which the text comes out as someone else’s voice. For example, users can make themselves sound like Barack Obama. The ‘voice skin’ should complement visual expressions such as skins and avatars for characters in games.
The software should not only display gamers’ text correctly, but also convey emotions such as joy and frustration. In addition, Modulate adds an inaudible watermark to help detect possible misuse of its software. The start-up hopes that game developers will want to offer the ‘voice skins’ in their games via microtransactions, for example.
The software should be in games from this summer, Kotaku reports based on an interview with one of the founders. It is not yet known which games those will be. Modulate is still thinking about offering the feature as a separate app on game platforms.
