Lionsgate releases movies on the Steam platform
Valve has signed an agreement with Canadian film and video distributor Lionsgate. With the deal, various blockbusters can also be watched via the Steam platform. The movies are available on all supported platforms, including SteamVR.
Depending on the location, there are over a hundred Lionsgate movies to watch. The offer in Europe is dwarfed by only 10 films. The big blockbusters, such as Hunger Games, Kill Bill, Pulp Fiction and The Hurt Locker, are missing here. In Europe, users still have to make do with four volumes of Leprechaun or Natural Born Pranksters.
It is not the first time that Steam offers films, but it is the first time that Valve has partnered with a major distributor. The films can only be watched streaming and not for sale. This means that the film is rented for 48 hours. If playback is not started immediately after purchase, the film can still be seen for a maximum of thirty days after the rental date.
The films are available on Windows, Mac, Linux and SteamOS in addition to SteamVR. The cheapest films cost 3.99 euros.
