Linux Mint 20 ‘Ulyana’ has appeared
Last weekend Linux Mint 20 with project name Ulyana was released in three variants: Cinnamon, MATE, and Xfce. The distribution includes several improvements and changes, including a new file sharing tool called Warpinator.
The developers of Linux Mint announce the arrival of the final release of version 20 in separate announcements for the versions with Cinnamon, MATE, and Xfce desktop environments. Linux Mint 20 is an lts release with long-term support and users can expect support until 2025.
New to version 20 is the presence of Warpinator, which allows users to easily share files within a local network with other systems running Warpinator. According to the makers, the tool is in fact a continuation of Giver, which was already in Mint 6 ten years ago and offered similar functionality, but was discontinued as a project.
Furthermore, version 20 of Linux Mint contains improved support for Nvidia Optimus, to be able to switch between the integrated GPU of the processor and a separate Nvidia video card. The display of the system tray has also been improved and, for example, the design of the icons has been aligned. Mint 20 is based on Ubuntu 20.04, but blocks Ubuntu’s Snap via apt packages. Users can still install Snap manually. The Linux distribution comes with Linux firmware 1.187 and Linux kernel 5.4.
