Linux kernel 4.3 is available

Linus Torvalds has released the final version of the Linux 4.3 kernel. Intel Skylake Graphics are now enabled by default, starting open source support for AMD R9 Fury GPUs is present and there are major changes to the Nouveau driver.

Furthermore, the ext3 driver has been removed, which means that a bit less code needs to be maintained. Ext3 installations can be handled by the ext4 driver. Ext2 does not have to fear removal yet. In addition, the code of several other file systems such as ext4, btrfs, f2fs and xfs has also been provided with updates, improvements and bug fixes.

Opengl 3.3 is now supported in VMware virtual machines and improvements have been made to the smp scheduler. With that, the release cycle of the 4.3 kernel has been “quiet” according to Torvalds and the merge window for the 4.4 kernel is open and Torvalds hopes that “it will be an equally quiet release.” The entire list of changes can be found on kernel.org’s git.
