LinkedIn stops Windows Phone app

LinkedIn, which has been part of Microsoft since the acquisition last year, is scrapping its Windows Phone app. As of August 31, the app is no longer functional. The company says it is targeting a Windows 10 app for desktops with Microsoft.

LinkedIn has notified users via email of the end of support for Windows Phone and Windows 10 Mobile. “We will be retiring the existing Windows Mobile App on August 31, 2017, which means that the app icon will remain on your phone, but will no longer work,” the statement reads. The company recommends Windows phone owners visit LinkedIn via its mobile site.

LinkedIn told Neowin that it is working with Microsoft on a Windows app, which should be released in the summer. LinkedIn speaks strongly about a desktop app and advises Windows Phone users to use Internet Explorer or Edge on their device, so a mobile app for Windows 10 Mobile does not seem to be in the planning.

Microsoft announced its acquisition of LinkedIn a year ago. Microsoft itself ended support for Windows Phone 8.1 this week.
