LIFX comes with cheaper ‘smart’ LED lamp

LIFX adds a cheaper LED lamp with WiFi to its range, the LIFX White 800. The lamp gives the user the option of choosing between warm or cold white light from 2700 to 6500K with a maximum of 890 lumens. The suggested retail price in the US is 40 dollars, about 37 euros.

The lamp, which would provide a light output comparable to a 60W incandescent lamp, can be controlled via Wi-Fi with an Android or iOS app. If there are multiple LIFX bulbs in the house, only one of the bulbs needs to be within range of the Wi-Fi router. Together with the IFTTT service, you can make your own settings so that, for example, the light comes on when the weather is bad or when something happens in one of the connected social networks. Furthermore, the lamp is compatible with the AllSeen Alliance framework, an open source home automation platform.

Not only at LIFX saw the light of day this week: Philips released the Hue Go on Wednesday, a bowl-shaped, multicolored lamp that can go without a socket for up to three hours.
