Lidl parent company Schwarz buys security company for, among other things, cloud branch
The German parent company of supermarket chain Lidl has acquired a large Israeli security company. Schwarz Group says it wants to diversify with the acquisition, but security company XM Cyber will also work on the security of Lidl’s cloud offerings.
With the acquisition, Schwarz wants to “prepare for future challenges in the ICT security field”, the parent company of supermarket chain Lidl, among others, writes in a press release. Schwarz acquires XM Cyber, a security company from Israel that assists many companies with advice and preventive measures regarding security. An acquisition amount has not been disclosed. XM Cyber will continue to operate as it already did, but will expand, Schwarz says.
Schwarz says the acquisition aims to further expand its business, but there are other reasons for the acquisition as well. For example, XM Cyber will also arrange the security of, for example, the websites and other online components of companies that fall under Schwarz.
The retailer also mentions the importance of cloud security in the press release. Although Schwarz doesn’t write it quite literally, XM Cyber will most likely also contribute a lot to the cloud service it wants to set up. Schwarz already announced last year that it would offer cloud services with which it wants to compete with AWS. Not much is known about the plans for the time being, but the new security company will probably make an important contribution to this.
