Lga1700 socket documentation for Alder Lake CPUs was on Intel website
Intel seems to have announced the arrival of socket lga1700 for Alder Lake chips. This socket is mentioned on a developer resources website. The lga1700 socket will most likely be used for Intel’s upcoming Alder Lake CPUs.
The entry was found by momomo_us. This Twitter user found technical documents on Intel’s website that listed socket ‘lga1700-adl-s’. These documents were posted on Intel’s VR software developer resources website. The documents in question are now password protected.
Given the naming convention, lga1700 is expected to be made for the upcoming Alder Lake desktop processors. Alder Lake itself was also specifically mentioned in the documents. These chips will be Intel’s twelfth-generation Core processors, and are expected to be made on a 10nm process, although that hasn’t been officially confirmed yet.
However, according to rumors, Intel will release Alder Lake processors with 16 cores in a big.Little configuration. This would be eight powerful cores and eight economical cores. Alder Lake would also be Intel’s first platform to receive support for DDR5 memory. Alder Lake is likely scheduled for 2021.
Rumors about socket lga1700 have been circulating for some time. For example, the socket was mentioned earlier this year at a supplier of test instruments for voltage regulators. Earlier this year, Intel already released a new socket. This lga1200 socket is currently used for current Comet Lake desktop processors, and will likely also be used for Rocket Lake chips later this year.
