LG will unveil dual screen smartphone with tilting screen likely on September 14
LG will probably unveil a dual screen smartphone with a tilting screen on September 14. This is evident from a short teaser video that the company has put online. Previously unofficial reports and a video had come online about the phone, which would be called Wing.
In an accompanying press release, LG gives few details about the phone. The company does say that the phone is part of the Explorer Project and that it works with industry partners such as Rave, Ficto, Tubi and Naver. The latter is a South Korean online platform with a large search engine; this company has worked with LG on the dual screen solution and is also developing a special version of its Whale browser with specific functions for the devices that are part of the Explorer Project. Qualcomm is also mentioned, although it is not stated which soc will be in the phone. Previous rumors suggested a Snapdragon 700 series soc with 5g, which could be the Snapdragon 765G.
Based on previous rumors, an unofficial previously online video and the new LG teaser, the suspected LG Wing looks set to become a flip phone with an extra screen. The device would have a 6.8 “screen with a 4” second screen and a 1: 1 aspect ratio. LG’s teaser video suggests that it is possible to rotate the second screen so that the two parts together form a flat whole, as if it were a smartphone with a regular form factor. The second screen is probably intended to complement the front screen. This may include displaying a keyboard on the second screen, or for instance a scenario in which the front screen shows the car navigation, while the visible, unfolded part of the second screen represents the control buttons for the music being played.
