LG will come with new image processors and AI support for televisions in 2018
LG has announced that it will equip new TV models in 2018 with ThinQ technology, which supports artificial intelligence such as Google Assistant. The manufacturer also comes with new image processors, so that new OLED models will support high frame rate.
The new Alpha 9 processor will be integrated in the LG OLED models from 2018. This chip ensures that HFR is supported and thus 120 images per second are possible. The processor would have a process with special algorithms to suppress noise. The Alpha 9 would also improve the color reproduction.
LG also comes with the Alpha 7 processor, which will be built into new 4K LCD televisions from the South Korean manufacturer. The chip supports fald-backlight and LG’s Nano Cell technology. The latter technology, which was introduced in LG UHDTVs in early January 2017, is in fact a quantum dot layer that should provide even more vivid colors, even when viewed from a 60-degree angle. According to LG, the 2018 LCD top models also have deeper black levels and improved image processing.
ThinQ technology is being integrated into LG’s latest TVs, both in the OLED models and in the new 4K LCD models. Smart home integration is supported via ThinQ. Furthermore, users can give various voice commands and search queries that are picked up by the remote control. For example, through this voice assistant from LG, users can request to display all the movies of the featured actor. Users must also be able to quickly connect via voice commands to, for example, connected game consoles or sound bars.
Users in some countries will also get Google Assistant to operate, for example, smart home devices or third-party services, although it is not clear which countries and specific devices are involved. More information will be available at the CES trade show starting next week.
