LG unveils line of OLED UHDTVs with HDR support
LG introduces eight new UHDTVs with OLED panels and support for HDR playback, including the G6 and E6. The G6 will come in versions with 77″ and 65″ screen diagonals and the E6 will have screen sizes of 65″ and 55″.
According to LG, the new TV line supports HDR formats such as HDR10, or the ST 2086 SMPTE standard, and Dolby Vision. Thanks to the OLED panels, LG can display high dynamic range images, where dimming can take place at pixel level. This should express the differences between light and dark parts in scenes of movies more precisely, so there is a super high local contrast.
The TVs support the display of the Rec. 2020 color standard and therefore contain a 10-bit panel. There is also an integrated foldable soundbar with forward-facing speakers, which were co-developed by harman/kardon. The manufacturer supplies the models with webOS 3.0 preinstalled. LG has not yet released prices and release dates.
