LG to partner with Here on autonomous driving

LG and Here Technologies have signed a partnership agreement in the field of autonomous driving. LG will provide the telematics for Here systems for autonomous driving, including for the Open Location Platform.

LG and Here will integrate LG’s telematics technology into Here’s Open Location Platform, which will provide services based on vehicle location. In addition, as part of the partnership, LG will offer Here’s HD Live Map mapping service as part of its telematics products.

LG’s telematics technologies form the basis for a communication hub of autonomous vehicles. The sensors of advanced driver assistance systems, such as the cameras, radar and lidar, detect traffic and road situations and send data to servers. The telematics hub is the connecting link and supports GPS, Bluetooth, WiFi, LTE and, in the future, 5G for the communication of autonomous vehicles. LG is working on 5g products, among other things.

Here is the collaboration of several car manufacturers, such as Audi, BMW and Daimler, in the field of map services. The manufacturers took over the Here service from Nokia in 2015.
