LG to partner with Harman Kardon for audio on OLED and UHD TVs
LG and audio specialist Harman Kardon have announced a partnership. The TV manufacturer will equip its televisions for the high-end market with speakers from Harman Kardon, with support for surround playback.
LG is already using Harman Kardon speakers with Ultra Surround support in its curved 105″ model with UHD resolution, announced at the beginning of this year, but the Korean manufacturer is going to integrate the speakers in another two OLED TVs and four Ultra HD TVs. LG has announced.
The front-facing speakers would provide 7.1-channel surround playback, but details about the implementation have not been disclosed by both manufacturers. It is also not known in which models the Harman Kardon speakers will end up.
Manufacturers are looking for ways to differentiate themselves in the competitive TV market and better audio reproduction is one way to do that. For really good sound reproduction, most consumers are still dependent on external audio sets.
