LG has provided transparent 55 “OLED screens for use as windows in Chinese subways. The screens are used to display real-time information such as departure schedules, locations, transfer options, local weather reports, and news.

LG reported in a press release earlier this week that the transparent OLED screens are currently only used in metro line 6 in Beijing and metro line 10 in Shenzhen, Engadget also writes. There are also plans to expand the use of such OLED panels to other metro lines, LG reports. The company will cooperate with railway companies and metro stations for this.

LG does not mention specifications of the screens used. The resolution and brightness, for example, are not yet known. YouTube channel AmazTech has published a video of the OLED windows, showing that the screens may function as touchscreens. LG itself does not mention touch functionality in its press release.

The company writes that it expects the transparent screen market to grow an average of 46 percent annually. By 2024, this market should have a total value of approximately 4.17 billion euros, LG expects.
