LG has shown a 27″ OLED panel with a refresh rate of 480Hz and a resolution of 2560×1440 pixels. This is the first Quad HD OLED panel with such a refresh rate.

The screen, which will be shown next week at the CES 2024 fair and is intended for gaming, will have a response time of 0.03ms and uses META technology, writes LG. The latter means that the panel is equipped with a micro-lens array, an extra layer that prevents internal scattering of light within the substrate of the panel and a larger part of the light is actually radiated towards the viewer. This means more light output for the same electrical input, while the viewing angle of the screen does not suffer.

The manufacturer also claims that the OLED screen emits the ‘least amount of blue light in the entire industry’ and about half as much as ‘premium LCDs’. No further specifications are mentioned. LG writes that it wants to make the panel available to customers in the first half of the year. They can then integrate the screen into their monitors. It is not yet clear when the first monitors with this panel will become available.

In December, LG already introduced an OLED monitor with a refresh rate of 480Hz, although the resolution was ‘only’ 1080p. That same month, Samsung introduced a 360Hz 27″ monitor with a resolution of 2560×1440 pixels.
