LG promises three OS upgrades for recent high-end smartphones

The South Korean manufacturer LG promises to release three OS upgrades for recent high-end smartphones such as the Velvet and Wing. In July, the manufacturer will stop selling phones.

For the Wing, that would mean upgrades to Android 11, 12 and 13, because that phone came out with Android 10. Cheaper phones get two OS upgrades, LG says. The manufacturer does not say anything about how long the security updates will continue. The promise of three OS upgrades is the longest support LG has given to smartphones to date: so far, LG has given up to two years of updates and upgrades.

The promise is probably an attempt to persuade interested parties to still buy an LG phone. LG announced Monday that it will stop making phones. The mobile branch has produced telephones for almost twenty years.

The support with quick updates and upgrades has always been a weak point of LG smartphones. Three years ago, the manufacturer therefore opened a division with the aim of making updates quickly. The promise applies to high-end phones from 2019 and later, such as the V50, G8, Velvet and Wing. Cheaper phones come with two OS upgrades for the K-series and Stylo.
