LG presents smartphone that should be able to scare away mosquitoes
Ever thought: my phone can do so much, but why can’t I scare mosquitoes away with it? LG has announced a smartphone in India that should distinguish itself with the Mosquito Away function, with an included back that should keep the bugs away from you.
LG announced the K7i, a variant of the previously released K7, at an Indian telecom fair and the news has been buzzing online ever since. The manufacturer supplies the device with a back containing a speaker that produces ultrasonic sound, at a frequency that people cannot hear. Mosquito Away should repel mosquitoes and keep them away from the user. There is also a stand to put the phone on the table like a kind of citronella candle.
LG uses ultrasound to repel mosquitoes in other products as well, such as air conditioners and even TVs. It is the first time that the function is in a phone. There is little scientific evidence that repelling mosquitoes with ultrasound works. Already seventeen years ago, a blind test showed that it does not help.
It is also a budget device with an unnamed quad-core processor with a maximum clock speed of 1.1 GHz, a 5 “screen and a converted price of slightly above a hundred euros. As far as we know, the phone will not come to the Benelux. Fortunately, the fall and winter in the coming months for a natural ‘mosquito away’ feature in our atmosphere.
