LG has presented its lineup of OLED TVs for this coming year. Below this is also a copy with a screen diagonal of 48″. Until now, the available OLED TVs for consumers had screen sizes from 55″.

LG reports that the 48″ OLED TV will receive the model name OLED48CX and will have more than 8 million pixels. This means that it is a TV with a 4k resolution, although further details are still very scarce. LG Display gave last year already announced that it would start producing panels for 48″ OLED TVs in 2020 and now LG has confirmed that these 48″ OLED TVs will hit the market this year.

The manufacturer says it is bringing Nvidia G-Sync compatibility to twelve of its new OLED TVs, with the company confirming to FlatpaneldHD that the new TVs also support AMD’s FreeSync, as well as VRR. All models probably have HDMI 2.1, partly because this is already present in, for example, the C9 and B9 from last year.

The 48″ OLED TV is one of the CX models, the successors of last year’s C9. Furthermore, the B9 is followed by the BX models and LG also brings the GX, WX, RX and ZX models As in previous years, the BX models are positioned below the CX by means of a less fast processor: the third generation of the Alpha 7 processor.

All other models will have access to the Alpha 9 Gen 3 processor, which would use deep learning in the 8k OLED TVs in the ZX line when scaling images from 4k to 8k. In addition, this image chip is able to recognize different types of objects and to choose the optimal settings on the basis of this. The Alpha 9 Gen 3 processor also recognizes different types of TV material, such as sports broadcasts or movies, and automatically selects the default settings for those ‘genres’.

The televisions from the ZX line have HDMI 2.1 to receive 8k and 60fps via HDMI and support the AV1 video format. The RX OLED TV is the rollable 65″ 4k TV presented last year at CES. In addition, the thin WX line with the characteristic integrated soundbar comes in 65″ and 77″. The GX line is now presented as ‘ gallery-oled’, which can be hung as paintings on the wall to display art, for example. They therefore resemble The Frame models from Samsung. The 65 “model of the GX has a thickness of 20 mm, according to LG. There will be no EX line; the E-oled TVs with built-in soundbars, which invariably came out in the past four years, will therefore not be continued. All new 4k OLED TVs also support av1.

A number of other innovations include support for Dolby Vision IQ, a further development of Dolby Vision that would guarantee the ‘optimum image quality’ as the makers intended, regardless of the genre of content or lighting conditions in the room. Furthermore, all TVs receive support for the so-called HGiG Mode, a mode for gaming that was developed by an interest group that includes Sony and Microsoft, for example. This mode came after game developers found it difficult to implement HDR in games in the same way. All models will also have access to the movie maker mode, which was introduced last year by the UHD Alliance. This is about displaying movies and TV series as the makers intended, with image interpolation being turned off.

Update, 22;18 hours: According to CNet, the rollable 65-inch OLED TV will cost $60,000.
