LG presents new Gram laptops with OLED screens

At CES, LG is showing off its new Gram lineup for 2023. The series of light laptops is being expanded with an extra thin model and a design variant with a glass finish, both with OLED screens. All models have new Intel Raptor Lake processors.

The LG Gram line-up for 2022 consisted of three models, which mainly differed in screen size, 14″, 16″ or 17″, with the smaller models also having a 2-in-1 convertible version. range expanded with a 15.6″ model with a different screen ratio of 16:9 instead of 16:10 with the other screen sizes. There will also be two special Gram variants: the Gram Ultraslim and the Gram Style.

All of the new Gram laptops have 13th generation Raptor Lake processors, which Intel recently announced. As with last year’s Grams, LG opts for P-series chips with 28W TDP. The laptops come with a maximum of 32GB of Lpddr5 RAM and an SSD of up to 1TB. All models also have a full HD webcam with facial recognition.

LG Gram Ultra Slim (15Z90RT)

The Gram Ultraslim, available in 15.6″, is, as the name suggests, extra thin: 1.25cm at the thickest point and 1.1cm at the front. With a weight of 998g, the laptop is no lighter than the lightest Gram in the world. last year: the LG Gram 14. The Gram Ultraslim does have a larger 15.6″ display. That is an OLED screen with anti-reflection coating and a resolution of 1920×1080 pixels. LG has probably been able to make the laptop lighter due to the smaller battery compared to the other models, with a capacity of 60Wh. Due to the extra thin design, there is no room for USB-A ports on this model, of which the other new Gram laptops still have one.

The Gram Style, available in 16″ and 14″, has a glass shade with a color changing finish. The palm rest is made of the same glass, with the touchpad ‘invisibly’ concealed in the surface, with small vibrating motors that simulate a click. Earlier Dell did something like this with the XPS 13 Plus. To define the boundaries of the touch-sensitive surface, LG has added LEDs that light up when you touch the touchpad. The anti-reflective OLED screen has 3200×2000 pixels and a 120Hz refresh rate on the 16″ model, and a resolution of 2880×1800 pixels at 90Hz on the 14″ model.

LG Gram Style (Z90RS)

The ‘regular’ Grams still have IPS LCDs, with resolutions of 1920×1200 pixels on the 14″ model, 1920×1080 pixels on the 15.6″ laptop and 2560×1600 pixels on the 16″ and 17″ models. The latter also have a variable refresh rate from 31 to 144Hz. The smaller screens refresh at 60Hz. All variants can optionally be equipped with an Nvidia Geforce RTX 3050. Compared to last year, the weights have remained about the same; the heaviest model, the 17″ Gram with Nvidia GPU, weighs 1450g, while the lightest 14″ variant remains under a kilogram. A 2-in-1 convertible version of the 14″ and 16″ models will be released again. They are somewhat heavier than the standard versions due to their aluminum frame and the glass plate for the panel. They do not have an optional Nvidia GPU and HDMI port, and the 16-inch laptop also has a screen with a 60Hz refresh rate.

Starting next month, LG will release the new Gram laptops worldwide. It is not yet known which models will come to the Benelux and what they will cost exactly. For example, in 2022, LG has not released the 2-in-1 variant here.
