LG opens division responsible for quick updates of smartphones

LG has opened a facility in South Korea that will be responsible for distributing rapid updates and upgrades for the manufacturer’s smartphones. In addition, the people within that division must test the updates before going live to ensure stability.

By opening the division, updates for LG smartphones should be ready faster in the future, the manufacturer claims. The Software Upgrade Center is also responsible for the compatibility of LG functions after updates, ensuring users that features of their phone will continue to work stably. The first upgrade from the Software Upgrade Center is Android Oreo for the G6 released last year.

It is unknown what the exact changes will bring about the opening of the center. LG regularly released updates and upgrades for its phones in recent years without the existence of this division. Presumably then, the smartphone maker’s software branch was responsible for its production and testing.

The Upgrade Center can, among other things, work for the G6 and V30, which appeared six months ago. Both devices are in the Android Enterprise Recommended program, with which the manufacturer promises users three years of security updates within 90 days. These two smartphones must also each be upgraded to a new version of Android.
