LG OLED M3 television with Zero Connect box can receive 4k120 images wirelessly
LG announces its Signature OLED M3 television. This TV features a new Zero Connect technology, which allows it to receive 4k120 images wirelessly via an external box. LG does not yet announce a suggested retail price.
LG showed the M3 for the first time at the CES show in Las Vegas. Unlike the company’s other OLED televisions, this TV does not contain HDMI connections. These are instead incorporated in a separate Zero Connect box with three HDMI 2.1a ports, to which users can connect their media players or other devices. This can then send the video signal wirelessly to the M3 television, with a range of up to ten metres. According to LG, the ZeroConnect technology supports 4k120 images without visible quality loss. However, it is unclear whether signal compression is applied or what the latency is.
The LG OLED Signature M3 will only show an M3 TV with 97 “diagonal at CES, but the company says there will also be 77″ and 83″ variants. The TV will have an EX panel with a resolution of 3840×2160 pixels. This means that the television probably does not have a micro lens array for higher brightness, as the G3 does. LG Display currently only produces 4k panels with micro lenses of 55″, 65″ and 77”. The M3 does get, just like the G3, an integrated mount so that it can be mounted flat against the wall.
LG says that the M3 OLED televisions will be released in the second half of this year, but the manufacturer does not yet share a more concrete release date. The company is also not yet mentioning suggested retail prices, but says that the TV will be positioned between the G3 TV and the Z3 TV with 8k resolution of 7680×4320 pixels.
