LG is considering bootloader unlocker for its Android devices
LG is currently internally discussing offering an unlock tool for the bootloader of its Android devices. With such a tool it is easier to install a custom rom.
That is stated in an alleged email from LG, which an XDA user posted online on Friday. The user, Wolfgart, had asked to what extent LG will offer support for unlocking the bootloader of the LG G3. According to him, there is a lot of demand for it from the community.
In the email, the Korean company says it is aware of the demand and is currently working on a server to make unlocking the bootloader more secure. In addition, the company is considering offering a tool that will give users the freedom to flash alternative software on the device.
If the mail is authentic, LG expressly indicates that the company wants to allow the unlocking of bootloaders. It follows manufacturers such as HTC and Motorola, who previously placed such software online. However, it will take some time for the tool to potentially get there, as there would still be technical limitations and security vulnerabilities that need to be fixed first. In addition, the policy and agreements with providers must be adjusted, according to LG.
