LG introduces water-resistant outdoor smartphone with a 4100mAh battery
LG has announced an Android phone dedicated to outdoor activities. The LG X venture will have a battery with a capacity of 4100mAh, an IP68 rating, a special app for outdoor activities and must be able to withstand shocks and extreme temperatures.
According to LG, the phone has successfully passed fourteen MIL-STD 810G tests for drops and exposure to moisture and dust. The ip68 rating makes the device resistant to dust and the phone must withstand half an hour underwater at a depth of 1.5 meters. Measurements were also taken to show that the device can withstand extreme temperatures.
Especially for cold and wet weather, the smartphone has three physical buttons on the front and a button on the side, so that the device can also be operated well with gloves. The device has a metal housing and a rough back for extra grip.
LG says the X venture is a smartphone for active users who don’t want to compromise on the phone’s looks and specs. The device will have a 5.2″ screen with a resolution of 1920×1080 pixels. The soc is a Snapdragon 435 with eight cores that run at 1.4Ghz, assisted by an Adreno 505 GPU. The device will receive 2GB of lpddr3 memory and has 32GB of internal storage, which can be expanded up to 2TB via a micro-SD card.
The device with Android 7.0 has a fingerprint scanner on the back and a dual camera. On the back is a 16-megapixel camera and a 5-megapixel front camera with a 120-degree field of view. The device weighs 166.5 grams and has dimensions of 154×75.8×9.3mm.
LG is releasing the Outdoor Essentials app especially for this phone. According to the manufacturer, this app contains six useful tools: a barometer; a compass; a meter for steps, calories and distance; an exercise meter, a weather alarm and a flashlight function.
The LG X venture is available in black and brown and will be released in the US starting Monday. The phone will also be available in select regions in Europe in a few weeks. It is not clear exactly where and when the phone will be released. Prices are also unknown.
