LG introduces soundbars that work with both Google Assistant and Apple Siri
LG announces five new soundbars, three of which will receive support for Google Assistant, Amazon Alexa, Apple Siri and AirPlay 2. All soundbars can also handle LG TV’s AI Sound Pro, which adjusts the sound profile based on the image.
The AI Sound Pro function only works if both TV and soundbar support it and according to LG gives a better audio reproduction. This mode can also adjust the sound profile of the soundbar itself, for example to select the music mode when music is playing. The new soundbars therefore have the same sound profiles as the LG televisions and the profiles of the soundbar can be adjusted with the TV remote control.
The five soundbars also support Dolby Atmos and DTS:X, in the case of the SP7Y, the DTS:X is virtual. This model is also the only soundbar that does not support eARC or 4K pass-through with Dolby Vision support. The SP7Y does support ARC. Three of the five models also support AI Room Calibration, where the soundbar can calibrate the speakers itself.
LG has teamed up with Meridian Audio for the soundbars and is introducing a new Meridian Horizon feature. This function can convert stereo sound to multichannel sound. LG will start selling the new soundbars this month, the company does not mention prices yet.
