LG introduces 2.57mm thin ‘Wallpaper’ OLED TV with magnetic mount
LG announced its new line of OLED TVs at CES on Wednesday. Among the models is the W7, which comes in a 65″ and a 77″ variant. LG calls it a ‘WallPaper Oled’, because of the small thickness of 2.57mm. The TV must be mounted on the wall with a magnetic mount.
The W7 TV itself contains no electronics, but a flat cable connects the televisions to a Dolby Atmos speaker bar that contains the components for the image display. The tweeters can come up from the soundbar.
The Wallpaper OLED TV itself can be mounted completely flat on the wall with magnets by moving the electronics. Users can only do this themselves because there is a risk of damage during installation due to the flexibility of the screen, LG is considering offering some kind of installation service. The W7 comes in 65″ and 77″ variants with UHD resolution. They have four HDMI ports with HDCP 2.2 support, three times USB, Ethernet, composite-in and component-in.
The maximum brightness of all 2017 LG OLED TVs is 25 percent higher than last year’s, so that almost all of them now reach 1000cd/m2. In addition, LG equips the models with webOS 3.5, the new version of the smart TV software, which includes a kind of speed dial function, the automatic display of more information about programs and controls for 360-degree videos.
The new models will receive an update from 6 to 7 in terms of name. For example, the B7, C7 and E7 appear in 55″ and 65″ variants. The G7 also comes in a 77-inch version.
