LG Display wants to present a 20-inch OLED panel later this year
LG Display wants to introduce a 20″ OLED panel later this year. The manufacturer does not say in which devices these panels can be used. The company also wants to make bendable OLED panels where users can determine the curvature themselves.
During the coronavirus pandemic, demand for ‘personal-use displays’ soared, says LG Displays vice president Kang Won-seok according to TheElec. The screen manufacturer wants to respond to this increased demand with the 20″ OLED panel. The OLED panel may be used for small TVs or monitors. It is not clear when manufacturers can make TVs or monitors with the panel.
In addition to the 20″ panel, LG Display is working on bendable OLED panels where the user can determine the curvature himself. For example, gamers can adjust the curvature depending on the game. Most consumers would like a curvature of 800R to 1000R. This is equal to the curvature of a circle with a radius of 0.8 and 1 meter respectively.
LG Display’s screens can be bent during use, because the screen only uses one substrate, Kang notes. This was probably a reference to Samsung Displays QD OLED screens, which use two glass substrates and therefore cannot be bent during use. LG Display is now in talks with customers about the development of the bendable display system.
Kang further said that LG Display wants to introduce a transparent 77 “OLED screen next year. Now the largest transparent OLED screen is 55” in size. That screen is used in Chinese subways, for example, to display information in windows.
