LG Display will show its second generation META OLED panels with micro-lens arrays during the CES. According to the manufacturer, the new panels achieve peak brightnesses of up to 3000cd/m². The panels are probably used in the new LG G4 and M4 televisions, among others.

LG Display’s META 2.0 technology is a further development of the first generation META panels, which the screen maker introduced in 2023. LG’s META OLED panels are equipped with micro-lens arrays, or MLA, where small lenses are placed in front of each pixel. This ensures higher brightness and better viewing angles.

According to the manufacturer, the new META 2.0 panels offer panels that are up to 42 percent brighter. With the previous generation, the screen maker advertised peak brightnesses of up to 2100cd/m². This year it is 3000cd/m², although LG does not clarify at which window size that brightness is achieved.

LG Display has further optimized the lenses of its META panels this year. This year the company calls its MLA technology ‘MLA+’. According to the manufacturer, they have an improved lens angle compared to last year. This should ensure less light loss and therefore higher image clarity.

This is combined with a new algorithm for increasing brightness, called META Multi Booster. That algorithm analyzes each scene and then increases peak brightness and color brightness, LG Display claims. The company does not make it clear exactly how this works. The manufacturer claims that the color brightness is also increased, to a maximum of 1500cd/m².

The META 2.0 panels will be delivered this year for the first time in 83″ format. The previous generation was available as a maximum of 77″ panel, a size that will also be available again this year. LG Display also makes 55″ and 65″ META 2.0 panels available. The panels are probably used in the new LG G4 and M4 OLED panels, which were announced last week.
