LG Display and AU Optronics are working on 480Hz LCDs with 1080p resolution
LG Display and AU Optronics are both working separately on LCDs with a refresh rate of 480Hz. The fastest monitors currently sold still have a refresh rate of 360Hz. Production of the 480Hz panels will start in the course of next year.
LG would, among other things, be working on a 480Hz panel with a resolution of 1920×1080 pixels and a screen diagonal of 24.5″, reports TFTCentral. That model would be ready for large-scale production in the fourth quarter, which suggests that monitors with that panel on are expected to hit the market in the first half of 2023. The panel is also expected to receive DisplayHDR 400 certification. The manufacturer has also optimized its pixel overdrive to enable a g2g response time of 1ms without inverse ghosting.
Further specifications of LG Display’s 480Hz panel are still unknown. For example, it is not clear which panel type LG uses. Many current 360Hz monitors have a TN panel, although AU Optronics also offers an IPS-like AHVA panel with 360Hz refresh rate these days.
The same company is also working on 480Hz LCDs, according to TFTCentral. AU Optronics’ 480Hz panel will also get a resolution of 1920×1080 pixels, although it is still unknown what the screen diagonal and panel type will be. The company is also working on a 1440p display with a 360Hz refresh rate and a 4k display with a 240Hz refresh rate. Production of the 1440p360 panel is set to begin this year; the other two panels will be produced from next year.
