LG confirms the arrival of a foldable smartphone
An LG CEO has confirmed that a foldable smartphone will be released. The manufacturer says it does not want to be the first with such a device. LG has not yet announced when the device should be released.
LG CEO Hwang Jeong-hwan said during the presentation of the V40 ThinQ smartphone, according to Yonhap, that it is important that LG’s first foldable smartphone should provide added value for customers. The urge to be first would play a smaller role in this. Samsung and Huawei are reportedly working on similar models.
LG is not the first to confirm that a foldable smartphone is on the way. Samsung has done that before. The specifications and details of those devices are not yet known. For example, it is unknown what they look like exactly and whether only the screen is foldable or the entire housing. LG filed a patent application for a foldable smartphone a few years ago.
In addition to a foldable smartphone, LG will also launch its first phone with 5G support next year. Because 5g networks are not yet active in the Benelux, it will probably not come out here. In any case, the American provider Sprint is going to release the LG device. A top woman from Sprint recently said that the 5g smartphone will have a recognizable design, so that everyone on the street can immediately see that it is the first phone with 5g.
