LG confirms that upcoming G3 smartphone will have a resolution of 2560×1440 pixels

LG has announced that its upcoming G3 smartphone will have a ‘Quad HD’ resolution of 2560×1440 pixels, confirming rumors about it. This resolution on a 5.5″ screen provides a pixel density of 538ppi.

There have been rumors for months about the use of a 5.5″ display with the resolution of 2560×1440 pixels for LG’s G3. The Korean company has now confirmed that the upcoming flagship device will get this panel. The notification is part of the announcement that the ah-ips screen is certified by Nemko, a Norwegian testing organization for electronics.

“The certification comes shortly before the new Quad HD LCD is unveiled with the upcoming LG flagship to be announced in the first half of this year,” LG said. The company is referring to the G3 announcement of May 27. The panel is 1.2mm thick and has a bezel of 1.15mm, making it the thinnest edge of phone LCDs to date, according to LG. The panel will go into mass production ‘soon’, making it unlikely that the G3 will be readily available on or around May 27.

There are more manufacturers working on smartphones with a resolution of 2560×1440 pixels. For example, there will be a version of the Find 7 from Oppo with that resolution and there are indications that Samsung and Huawei are working on such devices.
