LG comes with Hub Robots for smart home control

LG introduces the Hub Robots: small devices with support for Amazon Alexa that can answer questions from users and control smart home devices in a home.

The Hub Robot is a static assistant, just like the Amazon Echo or the Google Home, but with a screen. The device can, for example, show recipes on this, or the contents of the refrigerator if it supports this. Users can use the robot to control appliances in their home, such as turning the air conditioner on and off, LG promises. This probably concerns devices from LG’s SmartThinq line of devices.

In addition, the Hub can play music, serve as an alarm clock, give notifications and provide weather and traffic updates. Thanks to Amazon Alexa support, users can control the robot with their voice and ask questions. The camera allows the Hub to respond to users’ body language, such as nodding yes, and also allows the robot to respond differently to each member of a family.

In addition to a central Hub Robot, LG also uses smaller satellite robots in different rooms. They can do the same as the central part. LG will announce more details about the systems at CES 2017.
