LG has claimed in an article on its own site that Apple will release an iMac with an 8k display later this year. The page is now offline. Apple has not yet announced the iMac with 8k screen.

Apple has had an iMac with a 5k display since last year, but LG mentions the “8k iMac” in a post devoted to 8k applications. The post, in which LG explains the high resolution, has been taken offline, but can be found via the Web Archive. It was 9to5 Mac who noticed the message. The post mentions that the iMac is due out later this year.

The manufacturer from Cupertino has not yet said anything about a possible iMac with a display with 8k resolution. No rumors had surfaced before the post appeared online either. It is unknown whether LG took the message offline because it announced something in it that was not yet allowed to come out or because it was incorrect. The manufacturer has said nothing about that.

LG has been one of the suppliers of screens for Apple products for many years. iMacs, MacBooks, iPads and iPhones include panels from the South Korean manufacturer. The 8k resolution of 7680×4320 pixels mentioned by LG would lead to 326 pixels per inch on a 27-inch screen, a pixel density that Apple previously used from its iPhone 4 series in 2010.
